Surfing

Generations of families have learnt the skills of body surfing, boogie-boarding and surfing at Waipu Cove; and our beach is known by surfers from all over New Zealand as one of the Northland’s top spots to catch the waves. Local surfing club, the Bream Bay Sliders have regular events on the reserve.

If you need a bit of help getting started, or don’t have your board and wetsuit with you, the local surf school can help with lessons and gear hire. Surf lessons are held daily over the summer holidays, and by appointment at other times – everything from private lessons to surf parties.
