Waipu Caves

At Waipu Caves explore 300 metres of sacred underground passageways. Waipu Caves is around 50 minutes’ drive from our Waipu Cove holiday park accommodation. The main cave is 175 metres long and encloses one of the longest stalagmites in New Zealand (eight feet high and six feet in diameter!). Impressive limestone formations and a galaxy of glow worms are also present.

Experienced cavers and abseiling enthusiasts will relish the opportunity to discover one of Northland and Waipu’s best-kept secrets.

The Waipu Caves Walkway is an excellent two kilometre walk and one of Northland’s most exciting things to do. The track leads up and over a ridge, surrounded by native trees and rolling farmland. The walk up rewards you with simply stunning views of our glittering Northland coastline. The track then leads down toward the valley and to Waipu Caves. Explore a little and enjoy the picnic spot. This walk takes around one hour each way and is the perfect Northland activity during your stay with us at Camp Waipu Cove.
