Waipu Cove Reserve Board Management Structure
The current Waipu Cove Reserve Board was appointed by John Gardiner, (a Commissioner authorised to appoint the Reserve’s Board) on August 1 2008 for a period of 3 years. The Board is responsible for policy and governance issues, and employs managers, Richard and Noela Gunson, to enact same. The Board has a legal right to enter into loans, and is empowered to make camp rules for the safety and benefit of the community. The Reserve is on Crown Land, and is administered under the Reserves Act 1977, and enjoys a close association with the Dept of Conservation. The Board is responsible for the camping ground and day area on the Reserve, and fosters a good working relationship with the surf club, which has its own separate lease with the Minister. A management plan is prepared, inviting input from all sections of the community, and this management plan, once approved, forms the guidelines for future developments on the Reserve.
  • Bylaws
The Waipu Cove Reserve Board is a non-profit voluntary entity, with all revenue generated from the camp ground and other activities, used to fund maintenance and improvements. This has allowed for many new capital projects, for the benefit of all holiday makers and tourists.

A Domain Board was first appointed in 1943 and successive Domain Boards have been appointed on a 3 yearly cycle. We have witnessed significant changes and developments over the last 30 years, and the view of this current Board is to continue to make a contribution, for the benefit of the whole community.

The Board meets monthly and has a focus of making this Reserve a premium holiday destination for all campers, local residents, and visitors alike.
